Roast Turkey

Roast Turkey

Roast turkey is synonymous with the holidays. Whether that be Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter. In the USA more than 45 million roast turkeys are served during Thanksgiving alone.
This humble bird gets the ultimate glow up after being basted and slow-roasted for several hours. Like many foods that achieve cult-like status there are many differing opinions on how to prepare the perfect roast turkey. You can wet brine, dry brine or do no brine. Roast the turkey breast up, and more recently roasting it breast down is now said to be better. If roasting isn’t your thing and you don’t mind a little risk-taking you can try deep-frying your turkey. Some people swear by rubbing the turkey in butter and others prefer wrapping it in bacon.
No matter how you prepare it roast turkey is a versatile main that suits many sides. Mashed potatoes with stuffing or dressing are both classics. Sweet potato casserole topped with toasted marshmallows is an American favorite. For something new try a celery root puree, stuffed squash or mushroom pilaf.
